ECOTOURISM -  The Klamath Basin is a truly unique natural setting for observing animals and birds.  The basin is also one of the great waterfowl flyways in the US.  Crater Lake, the Klamath Marsh, Pelican Bay & Recreation Creek, the Williamson and Wood Rivers are just a few locations in the area that offer the eco tourist exciting adventure, super views and wonderful photo opportunities.  On both the Williamson and Wood Rivers a variety of wildlife can be observed including but not limited to;  beaver, otter, muskrat, mink, coyote, foxes, bobcats and squirrels in addition to marsh birds and raptors, loons, cormorants, white pelicans,  white faced ibis, terns, gulls, horned grebes, pied bill grebes, great egrets, blue and  green herons.  The headwaters of the Williamson, Sprague River Valley, Williamson River Marsh and a number of State Parks are also areas worth spending some time visiting.

FLYFISHING – Listed below are some of the more popular fly fishing areas in the Klamath Basin.  All the listed waters are most effectively fished with a qualified local guide.  Local guides typically have a unique knowledge of the area and techniques for the time of year and water conditions.  The names of qualified local guides can be provided to guests of the lodge upon request.

BIRDWATCHING -  Of all the birds that visit the Klamath Basin, none are more sought after for photo opportunities than the Bald and Golden Eagle, followed closely by the Osprey and Red Tailed Hawk.  All these birds and many other varieties can be seen in the vicinity of the lodge on a frequent basis.  There is a local chapter of the Audubon Society in Klamath Falls for those folks who want to gain a greater degree of local knowledge and understanding of local birdlike.

Bird watching trips to the marsh and other local areas can be arranged through the Williamson River Retreat with sufficient advanced notice.  Thirty days is a minimum recommended lead-time for reserving a day or two or even three.  There times during the year when inclement weather makes one or more days impractical. HIKING & BIKING -  Klamath Country is a great place for cyclists. One can take a ride along the marina for a lakeshore picnic, passing the Link River, or ride down a single downhill track at Brown Mountain.  Cyclists have plenty of choices, with heart pounding excitement and spectacular scenery among the options.

For those who love the outdoors Klamath County can fill all of your recreational desires.  Within the city of Klamath Falls, check out Moore Park, located on the southern shore of Klamath Lake, the Link River Nature Trail along the historic Link River, or try the Downtown Historic Walking Tour through downtown Klamath Falls

You will also find a Lake Ewauna Wing Watchers Nature Trail along Lake Ewauna teeming with abundant waterfowl and wildlife. The OCE&E Woods Line State Trail, a 100-mile rails-to-trails conversion is paved from Klamath Falls to the small rural community of Olene providing a scenic mixture of ranch lands, rivers and forested buttes.

For day hikes and biking within an hour's drive of Klamath Falls, head toward the wilderness area North, South, East and West and enjoy the Mountain Lakes Wilderness, Pacific Crest Trail, Lake of the Woods Trails, Mt. McLoughlin Trail and much more.

WINTER ACTIVITIES – Enjoy cross country skiing, sledding, snow shoeing and convenient access to regional ski and snow mobile areas .For birdwatchers, there is the Annual Winter Wings Festival

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

WATERFOWL HUNTING
- Waterfowl hunting in the Klamath Basin for ducks and geese is best done with a qualified local guide.  Typically this is an early season area with best results occurring prior to the onset of the heavy snows and bitter cold temperatures of winter.  Of course, there are always exceptions.  Information regarding qualified guides and bookings will be provided to guests of the lodge upon request.
